Lightspeed Payments

Lightspeed Payments allows you to accept all major credit and debit cards (both domestic and international), including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, Diners Club International, China UnionPay, and more.

With Lightspeed Payments, you can offer subscriptions to customers. It also supports Apple Pay and Google Pay, so shoppers can checkout with one tap in your store. For the Netherlands, Lightspeed Payments supports iDEAL as a payment method.

Lightspeed Payments processing fees per online transaction depends on your country. All payments processed through Lightspeed Payments, your balance and payouts are always at your fingertips — on the Finance page in your store admin.

Lightspeed Payments is available in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, the UK, and US.

Requirements to use Lightspeed Payments

Before setting up Lightspeed Payments, make sure your store meets the following requirements.

  1. Your store has legal pages, including:
    • Privacy Policy
    • Shipping, refund and return policy
    • Terms and conditions
    • Payment methods
    • Contact information
  2. You set up your product and shipping settings in your store, including:
    • Adding images to all your products
    • Ensuring your homepage and product content is authentic, without placeholder text
    • Adding shipping methods that match your shipping policy

Prohibited and restricted businesses to use Lightspeed Payments

To get Lightspeed Payments enabled for your store, you need to make sure that you are not selling the following goods and services:

Lightspeed Payments processing fees

Lightspeed Payments charges a fee for each transaction that happens in your store. The fee depends on the country where your Lightspeed Payments account is located.

Here’s a detailed overview of rates by countries:

Australia: 2.31% + 0.00A$
Belgium: 1.9% + 0.25 EUR
Canada: 2.9% + C$0.30
Ireland: 1.9% + 0.25 EUR
Netherlands: 1.9% + 0.25 EUR
United Kingdom: 1.9% + £0.25
United States: 2.9% + 30¢

Setting up Lightspeed Payments

Setting up Lightspeed Payments requires no technical skills. All you have to do is apply for the payment method from your store admin. Once your store is approved, you can start accepting online payments straight away.

To set up Lightspeed Payments in your online store:

  1. From your store admin, go to the Payment.
  2. Next to Lightspeed Payments, click Apply to Enable.
  3. Click Start now and fill in all required information about your business.
  4. Once you finish, click Submit.

Your application will be reviewed automatically right away. If it's accepted, Lightspeed Payments will be activated immediately, and you will be notified about it in your store admin. Please note that in some cases, Lightspeed may require additional documents. In that case, you will get a notification on your company email.

Payments made with Lightspeed Payments will be automatically deposited into your bank account within 1 business day. Processing fees are deducted before the deposit is made.

Accepting payments with Lightspeed Payments

After you enable Lightspeed Payments in your store, your customers will be able to choose this payment option at the checkout.

As soon as they choose Lightspeed Payments as the payment option, they will have to fill in their credit or debit card information and specify their billing address. The Billing address section will be prefilled with a customer’s shipping address:

Billing address specifying is a requirement of Lightspeed Payment to prevent fraud and chargeback. With a billing address, a payment gateway can verify whether it matches the data from the card-issuing bank. In case there is a 100% fraud transaction, Lightspeed Payments will prevent a fraudster from buying in your store.
