Lowest product price before discounting

Displaying the lowest product price before discounting helps you keep your customers informed about the actual benefit they get during a sale and makes the shopping process more transparent. Depending on your store’s location and area of operation, you might be required by law (e.g., the EU Omnibus Directive) to display this historical data when you announce a price reduction.

You can specify the lowest price you charged for an item that is on sale in the last 30 days. Customers will see this information next to the product price on your storefront.

The requirement to display the lowest product price before discounting may depend on the type of products you sell and the type of price reduction that you announce. Consult with a legal professional if you’re not sure you need to display this information in your store.

Currently available for stores located in the EU.

Setting lowest price before discounting for products

After you put a product on sale by adding the "Compare to" price to it, you can also specify the lowest price you charged for this item in the last 30 days.

To set the lowest price before discounting:

  1. From your store admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Open the product you want to add the lowest price for.
  3. Click Manage pricing options next to the price.
  4. Set the price before sale in the "Compare to" price field. This value must be higher than the actual sale price during sale that you set in the Pricing field.
  5. In the Lowest price before discount field, enter the lowest price for this item during the last 30 days (including any previously reduced price you announced as a promotion):

    Lowest

The value in this field won’t be displayed on the storefront unless you also enter a value in the "Compare to" price field.
  6. Save the changes.

That’s it! Your customers will now see the lowest price charged for this item during the last 30 days before the discount. It will appear both on the product page and in the product grid. If the product has been sold in your store for less than 30 days, a corresponding alternative text (for example, "Lowest price in 7 days before discount") will be displayed.

Here is how the lowest price before discounting can look on a product page:

Lowest

If your product has variations, you can also set individual lowest prices before discount for each variation. To set lowest prices for several items in bulk, use the Bulk Product Editor.

Instead of using the dedicated Lowest price before discount field in your store admin, you can create a special attribute with a custom name to display historical price data on product pages. For example, if you run a store-wide sale and you don’t use “Compare to” prices.

Setting lowest price before discounting for product variations

By default, when you create variations for your products, the lowest price before discounting for them is not specified. You can set separate lowest price values for each variation if you want.

After you add lowest prices for individual variations, customers will see values for the default product variation when viewing product pages in your store. When they select a specific variation on the product details page, the value will be adjusted. If your product does not have a default product variation, the lowest price value for the base product is displayed at first.

Variations must have unique SKUs before you assign individual lowest prices to them.

To set the lowest price before discounting for a product variation:

  1. From your store admin, go to Catalog → Products.
  2. Сhoose a product or create a new one.
  3. Go to the Options → Variations tab.
  4. Click Manage in the Stock column next to the variation.
  5. Set the price before sale in the "Compare to" price field. This value must be higher than the actual sale price during sale that you set in the Price field.
  6. In the Lowest price before discount field, enter the lowest price for this variation during the last 30 days (including any previously reduced price you announced as a promotion):

The value in this field won’t be displayed on the storefront unless you also enter a value in the "Compare to" price field.
  7. Click OK, then Save.

That’s it! You’ve added the lowest price before discounting value for an individual product variation.

Now when a customer selects this variation on the product page, they will see the lowest price information for it.
