Subtitles are short texts that are displayed on the product list and also on the product details page in your store. You can highlight important information in this field like promotion information, product target audience, ingredients (especially useful for restaurants), free shipping availability, etc.
You can add subtitles for any products you like right on the product page in your store admin or in bulk. It is also possible to provide product subtitles in different languages if your catalog is multilingual.
Adding subtitles to products
You can add short descriptions for individual products or in bulk. After you do that, they will be visible right away: in the product grid on your storefront, under the product name, and in the special section inside your product details page.
To add subtitle to a product:
- From your store admin, go to Catalog → Products.
- Click Add New Product or choose a product from the list.
- Scroll down to the Add product subtitle field and click on it.
- Enter the subtitle for your product.
- Click Save.
- In your mobile app for iOS, go to Products.
- Create a new product or choose a product from the list.
- Scroll down and tap Add more product features → Ribbons and Subtitles.
If you have previously added a ribbon for this product, simply click on the ribbon. - Tap Add Subtitle.
- Fill out the Subtitle field.
- Tap Done.
- In your mobile app for Android, go to Products.
- Create a new product or choose a product from the list.
- Scroll down and tap More product features → Ribbons and subtitles.
If you have previously added a ribbon for this product, simply click on the ribbon.
- Tap Add subtitle.
- Fill out the Subtitle field.
- Tap Save.
The text of your subtitles is “searchable”. For example, if your customers search for products using the phrase 'Free Shipping' in your store, in the search results they will see all the products that you've tagged with the Free Shipping subtitle.
Customizing product subtitles
Subtitles help your customers to get more information about product advantages. You can showcase all the catchy information in these short descriptions. If you are using additional storefront languages, you can create subtitles in various languages for any of your products.
To add/change texts of your product subtitles:
- From your store admin, go to Catalog → Products.
- Click Add New Product or choose a product from the list.
- Scroll down to the Add product subtitle field and click on it (or just find the subtitle section for the descriptions that already exist).
- Enter your text in the subtitle field.
- (optional) If your store is multilingual, enter your text in other languages.
- Click Save.
- In your mobile app for iOS, go to Products.
- Create a new product or choose a product from the list.
- Scroll down and tap Add more product features → Ribbons and Subtitles, then tap Add Subtitle (or just tap the subtitle text itself if it already exists).
- Enter the subtitle text.
- Tap Done.
- In your mobile app for Android, go to Products.
- Create a new product or choose a product from the list.
- Scroll down and tap More product features → Ribbons and subtitles, then tap Add subtitle (or just tap the subtitle text itself if it already exists).
- Enter the subtitle text.
- Tap Save.
If you have a multilingual catalog, you can also leave translation fields for your subtitles empty. This way, the texts of your short descriptions will be shown in your store’s default language.
Choosing how to display subtitles on the product list
By default, subtitles are displayed on your product list as fixed, always visible text. But you can choose to display short descriptions only if your customer hovers a mouse over the product picture in the grid. The rest of the time subtitles will be invisible on your storefront:
To set up how subtitles display on your product list:
- From your store admin, go to Design.
- Scroll down to Product Card details and layout.
- In the Product subtitle drop-down menu, choose Show or Show on mouse hover.
The changes will be autosaved.
Choosing where to display subtitles in your store
By default, subtitles are displayed on your product list. Another place where customers see them is your product details page:
It is possible to display subtitles only on the storefront or only on the product details page if you want to show them only in one place.
To turn off subtitles on the product details page:
- From your store admin, go to Design.
- Scroll to Product Page layout.
- In the Sidebar section, find and untick Product subtitle checkbox.
The changes will be autosaved.
To turn off subtitles on your storefront:
- From your store admin, go to Design.
- Scroll down to Product Card details and layout.
- In the Product subtitle drop-down menu, choose Do not show.
Deleting product subtitles
You can remove subtitles for individual products or in bulk. For example, the new arrival in your store has become part of your regular catalog, and the subtitles can no longer be useful.
To delete a subtitle for your product:
- From your store admin, go to Catalog → Products.
- Choose a product from the list.
- Scroll down to the subtitle section.
- Delete all the text in the text field.
- Click Save.
- In your mobile app for iOS, go to Products.
- Tap the product you want to delete the subtitle for.
- Tap the subtitle on top of the product page.
- Tap the subtitle text and delete it.
- Tap Done.
- In your mobile app for Android, go to Products.
- Tap the product you want to delete the subtitle for.
- Tap the subtitle on top of the product page.
- Tap the subtitle text and delete it.
- Tap Save.
