Sorting products in the cart, order details, and invoices

You can choose how products are arranged in the cart, in the order details, and invoices in your store. For example, if an alphabetical on SKU-based sorting suits your order processing workflow best. Items will be presented in the specific order you’ve set, from the cart onwards:

Available product sorting options in the cart, order details, and invoices

There are three sorting options available:

  • Time added to cart: Earliest first — Sorting based on the time a product was added to the cart. Items that were added first are placed at the top of the list.
This is the default setting for most of the stores, and you can keep it if it suits you.
  • Name: A to Z — Sorting based on the product title, in alphabetical order starting from the top of the list. For example, you can use this option if you tend to have many items in one order and it’s easier for you to go down the A-Z list when packing the box for delivery.
  • SKU: Ascending — Sorting based on the product SKU, in alphanumeric order starting from the top of the list. For example, you can use this option to facilitate locating items at your warehouse, where they are grouped by SKUs. Or if you use category-specific SKUs to help you and your customers navigate your grocery or wholesale catalog.

Changing product sorting in the cart, order details, and invoices

You can change product sorting in the cart, order details, and invoices for all the new orders in your store at any time.

To set how products are sorted:

  1. From your store admin, go to Settings → General → Cart & Checkout.
  2. In the Checkout Settings section, locate the Sort products in orders by block.
  3. Choose the option you need from the dropdown menu:

  4. Save the changes.

That’s it! Now, this product sort order will be applied to all the new orders with multiple items placed in your store.

Items will be sorted in the order you’ve set when customers add them to the cart. The same product sorting will then be applied to the order invoices (both regular invoices and tax invoices), the order details in customer accounts, and order-related emails. As a store owner, you will also see it in the order details on the Orders page in your store admin.

The sorting you set will not be applied to the orders already placed in your store.
