The publishing path for the page is the final part of the URL that users land on when they arrive on your page. For example, if your website has a URL structure, such as www.example.com/page1, the publishing path will be “/page1.”
Sitebuilder automatically sets the publishing paths for your pages by their names, but you can change them in the page settings to improve your SEO.
Why you need a publishing path for SEO
The publishing path makes your URL more SEO-friendly. If your page title is Charlottetown Summer Events and Attractions, you can choose to create a publishing path /charlottetown-events
URL length is an important search engine optimization (SEO) factor. There is a strong connection between a shorter URL length and higher SEO rankings. Google has been making efforts to shorten or even hide the display of URLs in the browser. A very long URL can look suspicious and discourage people from clicking it.
Publishing paths can also be used to label pages in multiple languages.
Setting a publishing path for your page
To customize a publishing path, follow these steps:
When in Sitebuilder, click Pages on the Topbar to open the Page manager.
Locate the page you want to set a publishing path for and click its Settings icon.
In the Page name section of the General tab, you’ll see the publishing path field.
Type in the desired publishing path for the page.
- Click Submit and publish your website to make your changes live.
Language-specific publishing paths
When creating a multi-language website, you may want to customize your publish paths so that they reflect your website structure. For example, to group all French-language pages, you can enter public paths as follows:
